You Are One Decision Away From a Totally Different Life

One of the greatest things about life is that everyone is living their story, whether it’s the way they want it to be or not. Life continues to keep moving forward and we either choose to move forward with it or life moves forward while we try so hard to make it stand still. Why do we try to make time stop, even if for just one second?

We all seek perfection. If life doesn’t line up to the story we have in our mind, then the whole world needs to fall apart because our little world within life isn’t going according to plan!

That’s where things start to fall apart. That’s how people start missing out on life. That’s how we start to feel overwhelmed because it’s not going according to our plan.

We all seek for perfection when it comes to our life story because it all makes sense in our heads but it doesn’t always make sense to everyone else if it were to play out the exact way in our minds.

When I turned 21 years old, I had a plan. I was going to make it big in Hollywood and take the film industry by storm as the next award winning producer in the studios. I was busting my ass in commercials and was having a blast doing it.

But all of a sudden, my plans were detoured because of some heart issues. I was upset because I had to shelf my dreams for a brief moment in time so I could focus on my health.

I’m the type of person that will give my all to a job or company to keep moving up to the top. I always had a desire to be the best and to lead. So the fact that I had to take time meant that I was falling behind.

I became lost, confused, and felt empty inside. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just for 1 surgery. Time kept passing and I struggled for many years to get my heart back on the mend. 10 surgeries and 3 years later, I was finally in the green to start moving forward.

By this time, I had gotten back into the world of restaurants and was already making strides to move up in the company. I never went back to the film industry because, during my detour, I had fallen back into the restaurant world to make money and fell back in love with the restaurant industry.

The restaurant industry fuels me in a way no other industry does. It’s fast paced, constantly changing, there’s always ways to innovate or make them more efficient, and it’s fun to me. To others, it has become their nightmare and they want nothing to do with them.

But the biggest piece of advice that I can give, from experience, is to stop expecting your life to go according to your plan. I’m not saying to not set goals because that’s just silly.

I made a decision to get back up. I decided that life wasn’t going to keep me down. You are only one decision away from a totally different life.

Set your goals from where you are and where you want to be. Just don’t always think that the path to take you from A to Z will be the exact path you will take to get there.

There are little detours in life that add to our story. Some detours come in the form of heartbreak, some in the form of excitement, and some in the form of sorrow. But everything that you experience, adds to who you are and who you will become.

Embrace the experiences you have in life, learn from every single one, and enjoy every moment of it. Life is short and it takes courage to keep moving forward. Never give up on your dreams and allow them to change.

In the end, it’s all going to be worth it. You never know who you will inspire by living life to the best of your abilities.

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make in your life is to not do something because you’re afraid of the way you’ll look or potential rejection.

Life rewards people who decide to take action. Successful companies are created from people who were uncomfortable but decided to take action anyway because they wanted something more.

If you fall into the category of wanting more – then the best thing that you can do for yourself is to step into your fear.

No matter how you feel, you must embrace your fears and step into it to get through it.

Extraordinary things are created by ordinary people who decided to stand up and say, “there’s a better way”. They are the ones who innovate with their hunger for a better tomorrow. They are the ones who make a difference.

Today is the best time for you to make a difference and to embrace your fears – so you can make an extraordinary impact, tomorrow.

Growing up in the restaurant industry, I went through my fair share of poor management and ownership. But when I first stepped into my first management position at 19 years old, I followed their patterns. I had to consciously make an effort to shift my values to align with the kind of culture that I wanted to instill in my team moving forward. That was a culture of learning & leadership.

In order to make any change in your life, you MUST shift your values and figure out the legacy that you want to leave with people. The majority of people don’t realize the impact they have on a person – good or bad – so what do you want your legacy to be with each person?

Are You Willing To Jump?

Life is precious. I get that I should feel grateful that I’m alive but how can you feel grateful and excited to be alive when it feels like everything in life is holding you back from achieving whatever it is that you want to achieve?

Are You Willing To Jump-

Everything boils down to a single choice. No matter how crazy your dream may seem, you still have to take the next step.

That step is a conscious decision that you make to move forward because remaining in that same place is too painful. We must decide to take that step to get to a better place.

But sometimes life is simply too painful. You’ve stayed in that place that you shouldn’t have for far too long and just let the pain build until the ground around you starts to crumble at your feet.

With no path left in front of you, you’re faced with a decision to jump into the unknown or stay where you are – continuing to let the pain slowly eat you alive until you’re a hollow shell of the person that you used to be.

If you’ve ever felt that way or you’re currently sitting in that place, I get it.

I struggled with finding my own happiness because my life felt out of control. I had a defibrillator that shocked me so many times that my anxiety & stress were through the roof every single day.

How can you feel powerful when it felt like you were a ticking time bomb, just counting down the minutes until it exploded? Every flutter in my chest made me feel like my world was ending.

But then, something clicked.

Instead of staying in that place of fear, I decided it was best to jump.

I was falling at speeds faster than I thought I would. It was terrifying. Nothing can prepare you for the amount of emotions that overcome you the moment you jump.

The weight you held on your shoulders for so long disappears instantly. You feel lighter, happier, and like you can tackle anything that the world throws at you.

But slowly, you’ll have moments of doubt, fear, & anxiety as you continue to fall. The trick is to believe that you made the right choice.

This morning I made the choice to turn off the shocking feature of my defibrillator. If you haven’t heard about my journey, you can read about it here.

Every moment, you have a choice to make. Neither choice is wrong because you are doing what’s right for you in that very moment but every choice does have a consequence to it – good or bad.

Make every minute count. If you don’t like where you are, don’t wait for tomorrow to make the change. If you want to move, pack up and go. Figure out what you’ll do for work once you get there.

If you don’t like your job, don’t quit right away if you can’t afford to pay your bills without it but start looking for another one. Get out there and interview.

Life is too short to be living in constant fear. You have to live life anyway so enjoy every minute Click To Tweet

Life is messy. No one who has ever been successful has created success without taking a leap of faith.

You are in control of your own destiny. It may not always seem like it when you’re in the midst of chaos but that’s simply because you made the choice to not be in control. It’s time to get back in the driver’s seat and get life to where you want it to be.

Be brave. Be courageous. Be grateful.

Strive for happiness every single day. If you can’t be happy right away, find something in your life that makes you happy and build on that. But always be looking to make every moment count.
