A majority of the world’s most successful people have had articles written about them about what their morning routine is every single morning to get the most out of their day. But what if you aren’t a morning person or someone that likes routine? Pay close attention.
I have learned through numerous mentors and coaches throughout my adult life that morning routines are vital to your success because it’s the beginning of your day. How you set yourself up in the morning will be a clear indicator of how your day is going to go.
If you hit your snooze button 3 or 4 times, roll out of bed, made coffee, put the news on while you get ready for the day; you’ll be filled with anxiety, anger, and negativity.
Now who wants to start their day off like that? I sure don’t.
I know if you’re one of these people, you’re going to defend yourself by saying that you need to know what’s going on in the world. I say BS because I know exactly what’s going on in the world without having to watch the news every single morning.
When I was a child, I absolutely hated having routines. I didn’t want to “live a life filled with routines” because I didn’t want to become boring. The older I get, the more I realize routines are exactly what you need to win your day. Click To Tweet
Athletes don’t practice to lose games. They practice so that they can win every single game. Now mistakes happen throughout the game that can throw them off or be big enough where they’ll lose the game but you know what? They’ll get right back into practice and go again harder the next game.
Why? Why do they continuously go practice even if there’s a chance they’re going to lose? No matter how many times you lose, you give it your all every single time.
That’s exactly what these morning routines are. They’ll get you in the right mindset to tackle every single day and some times, you’ll slip up. Something happens that ruins your day but you get some sleep and do it again tomorrow.
I am going to share with you my morning routine that I do every single morning. You can choose to create your own OR you can use mine to see if that starts helping you in your life.
1. Drink a bottle of water instantly
The first thing that I do is when I wake up, I’ll sit up on my bed and drink a bottle of water. Why do I do this? I always feel groggy, no matter how much or how little sleep I get that night. I felt groggy because I am always dehydrated by the time I wake up. As soon as I’m done drinking the water, I instantly feel energized and ready to tackle the day.
2. Read 30+ minutes
I read something every single morning for 30 minutes per day. Now I’m not reading the news or anything negative, I’m reading books that will inspire me to be better than I was yesterday. I will read leadership, personal development, sales, or even industry related books. This is so I can grow in my professional life as well as my personal life.
3. Superhero Pose
Now this may sound silly but I will go out into my living room, open the curtains so I can watch the sunrise, and I stand in superhero pose for at least 10 minutes. It has been proven when you stand in superhero pose, you will feel more confident. It not only allows me to feel confident in my day, but it shoots throughout every aspect of my life. (When I really feel like it, I’ll rip my shirt open too but normally it’s just hands on my hips…)
This is a little secret of mine I have never shared with anybody but it’s something that gets me excited for the day. It allows me to get excited about cold calling.
I don’t always wake up early enough to get a full workout at the gym but I’m human. I have days I just want to sleep in a little longer but I don’t make myself feel guilty for it. So if I don’t have time for 30 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weight training; I will do the basics for 20 minutes.
Jumping jacks, push ups, pull ups, squats, mountain climbers, and crunches. It allows me to get my blood flowing and my heart rate up.
When I don’t do this morning routine, my day is usually thrown off by random circumstances where I just don’t feel great. I go out of my way to make sure I do it every single day and I’ve been doing this for over a year now.
